Increasing Number of Languages Spoken in Herefordshire
Hereford schools are taking up the challenge of coping with the increasing number of languages being spoken in Herefordshire.
Languages such as French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Polish, Russian, Romanian, Lithuanian and even Arabic, Bengali and Punjabi can be heard in Herefordshire.
Hereford’s Whitecross High School is now offering extra lessons in Polish language every Saturday, and they are hoping to expand this to Portuguese, Estonian and Lithuanian too. Pupils from Bromsgrove Pre-Preparatory and Senior Schools also did their bit to celebrate European Languages Day by eating French pain au chocolat and German sausages! We’re hoping to have some budding translators and interpreters emerging from these Herefordshire schools before long.
