Luton company choses us to translate website to Gujarati, Punjabi, Bengali, Hindi and Urdu
Apparently almost 20% of the population of Luton, Bedfordshire would describe themselves as Asian or Asian British. With over 135 languages spoken in Luton, many of these will be Asian. Many of Luton’s inhabitants originally hailed from Southern Asia, and so I suppose it is no surprise that an enterprising Luton based company has chosen Knockhundred to translate its website and marketing literature into Gujarati, Punjabi, Bengali, Hindi and Urdu.
I always find these kind of translation projects fascinating from the website localisation point of view. The website copy and marketing material for translation is aimed at Gujarati, Punjabi, Hindi, Bengali and Urdu speakers living in Luton so the localisation conventions are different than if the website translation were aimed at people living in India, Pakistan or Bangladesh for example. It is a matter of striking the right balance, and I’m pleased to say, we’re pretty good at that!
