Work With Us

Interpreting

Working in over 150 languages, our interpreters are rigorously vetted before they can work with us. Our interpreters are experienced and can speak at least two languages. For full details, please view our Quality Assurance policy.

It is normal practice for an interpreter to interpret from a language that is foreign to them, or at least not their mother tongue, into their mother tongue. In this way, their understanding of meaning in the source language will be rendered in the language in which they are most skilful.

We fully understand that when an interpreter is required sometimes only a minimal amount of notice can be given. That is why our project managers will respond immediately to a request for an interpreter. The more notice you are able to give us however, the more chance there is of a suitable interpreter being available on the requested day and time, and as close to the venue as possible.

Interpreters have to work 'in the field', without time for reflection or reference. Unlike translators, they cannot access reference sources. It therefore goes without saying that they need to be linguistically competent. They also need to be socially and occupationally knowledgeable and resourceful.

On an assignment, all our interpreters adhere to the following code of practice:

  • the interpreter shall render a complete and accurate interpretation
  • the interpreter shall remain impartial
  • the interpreter shall maintain confidentiality of all assignments
  • the interpreter shall confine him/herself to the role of interpreting
  • the interpreter shall be culturally sensitive.

Our interpreters behave and present themselves professionally. They understand the need for punctuality and compliance with any security or other matters when on clients’ premises.

Many of our interpreters have undertaken a Criminal Records Bureau check. Please ask us if you particularly need an interpreter who has been CRB checked.
