Speech to Text/Palantype

Our trained speech to text reporters facilitate communication between deaf, hard-of-hearing and hearing people.

They do this by taking down the spoken word verbatim on a Palantype keyboard. The reporter keys in what s/he hears using words, phrases and shortcuts, and the computer software translates this into English. The output appears on the screen of the computer for the deaf or hard-of-hearing person to read.

The advantage of this system is that a trained and skilled reporter can write in excess of 200 words per minute, enabling the deaf or hard-of-hearing person to follow proceedings at the same speed and on an equal footing with their colleagues.

Please note that fully trained and professional speech to text reporters are scarce in the UK. For that reason, you should give us as much notice as possible if you need to book an interpreter.
